Campaign Against Equine Carts in Urban Centers
is Brazil - Horses and donkeys are still used as transport
for people who cannot afford to buy a car. They are also used to
transport recyclable materials. However, due the absence of educational
programs regarding humane treatment of animals, they
are treated as if they were machines. Many people use
their horses during the day and rent them to be used by other Cart
owners at night. When the animals get overstressed and sick, usually
they are abandoned to die. Cities like Porto Alegre, Brasilia, Niterói
and São Paulo, are big metropolitan cities and also many
serious accidents happen injuring animals and people. To send this

Save
the horses in San Mateo County- Our horse community is under
siege and is rapidly becoming a candidate for the ìendangered speciesî
list. Horse owners throughout the County of San Mateo are battling
the unfair burden of sky rocketing ìspecialî fees and zoning laws
that are destroying the rich historical legacy that these magnificent
animals represent. The State of California considers horses to be
livestock and requires no special fees or taxes on herbivores such
as horses, cattle, sheep and goats. San Mateo County has a special
ìnon-livestockî definition for horses and assesses extremely high
fees for their keep. Our horse population is literally disappearing
from the rural portions of the County.
