Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil -The Market of Madureira, suburb of Rio de Janeiro,
has been selling living animals for many years. Animals are sold
for "religious" rituals and slaughtering. These animals are kept
in horrible conditions and In
January, 2000
almost all animals have died tragically, in a fire that burnt the
market . After a couple months the market was reopened and live
animals are still being sold there. Rio de Janeiro has now a new
mayor and he has created the first Secretary of Promotion and Defense
of Animals.(Secretaria Especial de Promoção e Defesa dos Animais)
in the world. Let's ask him to work in order to ban the selling
of living animals from all markets in Rio:

Secretary Maria Lúcia Frota: sepda@pcrj.rj.gov.br
Petition for
Exploited San Francisco Animals - Animals sold for food
in San Francisco's live animal markets, frogs,
turtles, fish, chickens, and birds are often illegally poached from
the wild, forced to live in obscenely filthy conditions, and left
to die without food or water. Starvation, dehydration, suffocation,
and mutilation of animals are violations of the city's anti-cruelty
laws and the San Francisco Health and Safety Code. To

Have
a Heart, PETsMART, Stop Live Animal Sales - This petition for
PETsMART to stop selling live animals is in response to the death
of yet another recently purchased pet and is not a call for a boycott,
but a promise of support if this ethical policy is adopted.
Stop
the Sale of Puppies and Kittens in Pet Stores - Puppy mills
are part of a sick trade that supply pet stores and research laboratories
with a steady stream of animals. The awful truth is that thousands
of dogs are dying and suffer horrible forms of abuse including starvation,
cannibalism and lives spent in extreme physical and psychological
distress. For more petitions to
